5 out of 5 stars Good tool but the theory is identical to another from 1962 in "Four Magic Moves To Winning Golf"   February 3, 2008
J. L. M. GLEZ (Spain)
Tour tempo is a great tool to improve timing, rhythm and tempo which will help many players. But this theory is not new. The first reference I have found to these concepts appeared basically in the book "The Four Magic Moves to Winning Golf" by Joe Dante (1962) pages 158-159 , a great book that I strongly recommend, and from which I have extracted some sentences to view my point: "The rhythm in the swing of a good player is noticed because of a measured cadence in the upward and downward movement of the club. In his swing there appears to be - and there is - a definite relationship in time between his backswing and his downswing. ... These two segments of the swing can be accurately timed by a motion-picture camera, by the simple process of counting the number of pictures the camera takes during each segment. Such a count shows that the backswing of a good player takes almost twice as long as the downswing. This two-to-one ratio is the rhythm of the swing. The total time or tempo of the swing will vary with different good players, but the ratio or rhythm will not. Nor will it vary from club to club. The ratio will be the same for the 8 iron as it is for the driver. The tempo of the swing will not change, either, for the individual player. ... Developing a rhythmic swing promotes better timing (Timing means regulating the speed of the club head so as to cause it to reach its maximum as it hits the ball), ... and also helps to strive the ball in the exact center of the club face."

In case of Tour Tempo this ratio is established in three-to-one . Sam Snead said: "I used my music to help me maintain my swing's rhythm . For me, waltz time, or 3/4 time, was perfect for the correct swing tempo." Ernest Jones also suggested to use the waltz music to help creating the appropriate swing's rhythm.

5 out of 5 stars Gave me a real lift   August 22, 2007

I absolutely recommend this tour tempo system. I was hitting in the 90's with occasional 88 or 89 at the most. Been playing 5 years. In the last month after only using this system for a few days I hit 87, 86, 87, 85, 83. All under what I usually hit and even in bad conditions with rain and wind. I'm a professional singer so can really feel the beat so it's easy for me. If you have no sense of rhythm it may take a little longer for you. I do advice warming up properly on the range first to get the rhythm set before you go out. Then just smile and swing.

5 out of 5 stars Great concept.   March 23, 2005

The golf world is flush with theories on how to swing a club better. Few work but this one does. I always thought good tempo was the last, missing ingredient in my swing but didn't know how to improve it. This book and accompanying CD will have you swinging with the same tempo as Tiger, Phil or Ernie in about ten minutes and you will be amazed at how your shots straighten up almost instantly. The author has done us amateurs a great service. If you struggle with swing mechanics and lurch from backswing into downswing and so on, get this book. YOU WILL PLAY BETTER.

There are some good basic concepts in the author's analysis but alone they don't make a book.

Although the book and the idea are good as yet I can't say my findings live up to the amount of rave reviews it gets, but different ability's will no doubt get the correct tempo faster than me, and I am prepared to stay with it but what you should know before you buy this book are these 2 points:
(A) To use the book and included CD Rom, you will need a Computer otherwise you won't be able to view and follow the included video files.(not such a problem I say, the author says in the book no more thinking golf thoughts keep your mind clear I defy anyone to view these samples with music, voice over, and flashing text, all at the same time and keep your mind clear)
(B) You also need a portable CD player to enable you to practice while listing to the tempo instructions on the range or practice area.
That said the author has found something different although it's more through technology than traditional means. Once into the book there are a lot of soft sell hints of all the things the author feels are an extra to help with your new swing and he sells them all at the website, if you feel you need more than that you can have a two day school, for that a cool $5000 whatever happened to stick, ball, hit.
