Excellent choice for the beginner November 7, 2008

Bought this when i forst took up golf, and it perfectly pitched at the novice. Gets all the bacics right, and moves on to more advanced stuff later. It may not get you playing like a pro in a weekend but you'll have all the basics stance, grip, the basics of a swing and give you a chance of actually hitting the ball.
If you're looking for a present for someone this Xmas, and they've jus taken up golf, i'd definently recommend this.
