fraud and a numpty August 28, 2008 Mr. T. Stott (Angus, Scotland) Look it's very simple. He overcomplicates everything to make it dramatic and "extreme". The book has some good bits in it but you are much much better off with a ray mears, mors kochanski or lofty wiseman book. Plus buying this allows the fool to continue making tv programs that put people in danger and give them an unrealistic impression of outdoor living and survival skills.
Interesting and educating July 28, 2007 Dan Boldo (Bellevue, WA USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
The content is well written, the pictures are amazing and the knowledge shared is invaluable. Bear's style makes the book come alive and it is a pleasure to read.
Perfect Coffee Table Material July 26, 2007 Ms. Verena Womersley (Engerland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the perfect book if you don't want to have to talk to any male member of your household - because they have their face buried in this book. It's full of interesting, and some gross, facts and ways to survive in any - and I truely mean any dangerous and life threatening situation you may find yourself in. In fact for the most of it, I NEVER want to be in any of those situations - but at least I'll know what to do if I get bitten by a snake, attacked by a bear or lost at sea.
Great book for beginners July 2, 2007 Syd (uk) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book will give any person a decent knowledge of survival, and is therefore recommended for that reason. However, if you are like me and know the basics of survival, and have had experience practising them, then this book will prove a bit repetitive. Having said that, it is a good read, and Mr Grylls has undoubtedly incorporated his trademark enthusiasm into this book.
Follow this at your peril!! June 6, 2007 Avid Fan (Cheltenham, England) 10 out of 29 found this review helpful
Update: Recent concerns about parts of the program on which this book has been based have been a source of media speculation. Feel free to make up you own mind but after those concerns were raised I felt it backed up my comments below. I would stick with the likes of Ray Mears and John 'Lofty' Wiseman(although some of Lofty's techniques are getting a little dated). After reading this book, comparing with other bushcraft\survival technique books and actually spending time in the wilderness putting what I've learnt into practice, my concern would be if you follow what Bear Grylls recommends you could end up in a worse position than when you started!!
