Sassy with more one liners than a Columbian drug baron!!!!!! November 6, 2000 Smart, sassy, streetwise and with more one liners than a Columbian drug baron this is yet another slice of lowlife observation from the pen of Elmore Leonard. It interweaves skillfully numerous plot strands and threads with skill. The characters are drawn well and you do find yourself pulled into the world of Leonard which is the mark of a great writer. The plot concerns a bail bond writer, an air hostess, a gun runner, an ex-con and an FBI agent and how all their lives are inexorably linked after the FBI agent arrests Jackie Burke for smuggling drugs. Constantly moving this book will grab you from its first pages and you will find yourself hooked until its climax. This book has now been filmed as Jackie Brown by Tarantino but don't let that put you off this is a book good enough to merit reading on it's own account.
Good crime thriller, better than the film. July 28, 2000 habster2477@hotmail.com (Manchester, England) First of all, I hated the Tarantino film Jackie Brown. This novel was so much better. If you like quirky crime stories, this is great. Leonard portrays a good backgorund to the characters. The finale is certainly built up well during the book. A good book, something different to read perhaps to your favourite authous.
Elmore leonard at his best!! October 12, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Rum Punch is a wonderfully written novel, which follows the story of Ordell a low life self centered crook who is involved in a story line which throws the reader off into many different fellings and thoughts. A must for all Elmore Leonard fans and those who have watched the film "Jackie Brown" by Quentin Tarantino.
This book was a perfect plot for the movie March 6, 1999 How do you EVER put ensemble a cast including, a 44 year old stewardess, a bail bondsman, and ex-con, a gunrunner, a dirty harry wannabe superstar ATF agent, and a spaced out beach bunny. I don't know but Mr Leonard does so with incredible style. His skills of writing and Quentin Tarantino's moviemaking make one heck of a duo.
