Jodi the Genius July 19, 2008 J. Gray (Newcastle, UK) Jodi Picoult is an absolute genius, her stories are all about moral dilemmas that we fleetingly think about when they hit the headlines or are discussed at dinner parties but rarely do we get the opportunity to stay with the dilemma for a while, look at it from all points of view and come to our own conclusions. Jodi Picoult allows us this time and in My Sister's Keeper she hits the spot yet again. If you have never read Jodi Picoult then this book is a fantastic way to start she takes you on an emotional roller coaster and grips you from the very start. As with other reviewers l must advise you not to read this book in public as you are very likely to weep, cry and sob from your gut at various intervals throughout! I can not recommend this book enough and l strongly suggest you read other Jodi Picoult books - l am yet to find one that has not only lived up to expectations but exceeded them!
One for anyone who really loves someone June 22, 2008 M. Mason (Glossop, Derbyshire) As someone with an older sister who she adores, the book really makes you place you and your sibling in their shoes and think what you would do for them in the same scenario. This is well written in that you get a viewpoint of how her cancer affects all of the family, mother, father, sister and brother, as well as getting an insight into what many young cancer patients go through. As said before, the ending is unexpected and had me sobbing in my bed. The only other book ever to provoke this response in me is Pay It Forward, which is also a fantastic read.
And now for something completely different June 10, 2008 ClaireBearBean (England) I really really enjoyed this book. Thought it was a really original idea for a novel, a fresh and new way of looking at the tangled web of family love, relationships, duty and loyalty. It was the first Picoult book I've read and I will certainly be searching out more having loved this one so much. Highly recommend reading it. It will keep you enthralled and guessing until the end.
Cried my eyes out! June 9, 2008 dizzyshelly (Poole, England) This book is truly amazing. With the whole designer baby issue becoming bigger each year, this really makes you look at the moral implications of the situation. In this particular story Anna is "created" in order to help her sister who has a rare form of lukemia. Each chapter is from the view point of several different characters in the book, and you find yourself changing your points of view about things each time a new chapter begins. The twist at the end was completely shocking and unexpected and I cant believe how much I cried. Definately not a book to read in public!
Utterly utterly compelling June 3, 2008 S. West (UK) I'd read one Jodi Picoult book before and quite enjoyed it but thought this one sounded really intriguing. I was not disappointed. From the moment I picked it up I didn't want to put it down. I was snatching moments throughout the day just to find out what happened next. I was not prepared for what did happen at all, having resigned myself to what I thought was the inevitable ending. It is a wonderful read and if you haven't tried a Jodi Picoult book before then try this one first.
