I am an avid fan of Ground Force and enjoy gardening, so I thought I would pick up this collection.
The first story "Mr MacGregor" has a gardening theme as you might expect. I thoroughly enjoyed this from the first word to the last. My only fear being that I was reading at such a rate the collection would be finished all too soon. There are tasteful hints of sexual encounters along with mystery, interwoven with humour and beautiful horticultural descriptions of both flora and characters alike. The second story "The Last Lighthouse Keeper" was a surprise. I must confess I expected a horticultural based story, but was delighted. The detailed descpription of harbour life is wonderful. Alan, obviously, has a fantastic eye for detail and his ability to convey this to the reader is great. I must confess I have yet to read the final story. If the first two are anything to go by this weekend is 'booked'. The stories are light and frothy, but if you are looking for a chilled, relazed read then add this one to your shopping basket.
