Heart-breaking and charming May 27, 2008 Callie Morgenthau (London, UK) This was the first Marian Keyes book I have read, and I am so pleased that I have so many more to catch up on. It was heart-breaking at times, but there was so much wit and charm that it was not a dreary read. I did find it a bit too long, and at times I wanted to yell at Lucy that she was being so blind to the faults of her father and her horrible feckless boyfriend. But it was a gripping book and I will definitely try some of Marian Keyes other book based on how much I enjoyed this.
hated it April 8, 2008 C. Stirling (ireland) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
hated the characters, such a weak storyline - just didnt have that wonderful Keyes wit, charm and storytelling that her later books have. Instead buy Watermelon, Rachel's Holiday or Last Chance Saloon.
Delightful Escapism November 7, 2007 Mrs. K. Smith (UK) Obviously not to be taken too seriously. This is "buy some chocolate, get in the bath, cheer yourself up" material. Marian Keyes just has decent light reading for girlies down to a tee. This is witty, ludicrous fun, and why does it work? Because shamefully, we can all empathise!
Not her Best......but still good!! July 26, 2006 Fiona Allen (St Louis, France) Unlike all other MK books I did not start reading this one and could not put it down. It just didn't grip me the same as the other books had. The characters seemed - well, quite silly and unreal at times and I had no real affection for them. The ending was predictable chapters before we got there. I found myself not really caring if Lucy got married or not. That said, this is Marian Keyes and she is a fantastic writer and so this book will still keep you amused. But if you haven't read one of her books before then get "Rachel's Holiday" which is hilariously funny, touching and heart warming all at the same time.
Brilliant! June 24, 2006 Charlotte (Manchester UK) Another gem from MK! I bought this for a holiday & had read it before i even got on the plane! I cant fault her one bit! Fantastic from beginning to end! If you have never read a MK book before this is deffinately going to get you hooked!!
