If I could have given this item no stars, I would have ... April 1, 2008 Hatters I bought a jamie Oliver Professional flavour shaker as a present for somebody last October. Unfortunately for both parties, somebody else beat me to it and I was left to keep this item for myself. It wasn't a huge disaster as I quite fancied one for myself anyway. To start with I was only crushing fine herbs and peppercorns for which it did a fab job. This weekend, I needed it to crush some garlic. Boy, was I in a dream world. It smashed it a bit, but taking it to a pulp - nope. Despite adding salt and olive oil, nope, nada. I decided to wash the device up and have another go at a later date. Rubber seal has come away. It won't go back, and I've only done pepper this evening which has ended up all over the working top. Unimpressed doesn't describe how I feel. I can only think that 'cut away from camera and we'll crush by another means' goes on in the Oliver programmes. I would not recommend this item if my life depended on it. Meanwhile, if anybody has any bright ideas as to how I can reaseal my shaker, they'd be very gratefully received. Thanks
As Jaime O might say - 'Piece o'Crap!' January 11, 2008 M. CRANFIELD (Bermuda) Good idea, but the two halves don't lock together properly and tend to come apart when shaken vigorously, unless you hold it clamped in two hands. Also I ordered the stainless steel version and they sent the plastic one... Amazon UK is only a shadow of the US version... Maybe Bezos needs to look at how things are operating in the UK/EU... Maybe it should have been made in China and not the EU - haha!!
Brillant idea- RUBBISH QUALITY January 5, 2008 Jane Frances (Colchester) I've returned 2 now due to the locking mechanism being faulty and the rubber seal coming off. Like previous reviewer , it had to be held double handed to keep it together and leaks - not a pleasant experience!!
Nice to look at but doesn't last long January 4, 2008 Miles review (Bristol, England) We were given this as a christmas present last year. It was brilliant and worked well. The recipe ideas that came with it were tasty and easy to make. However, we only had it for a month because the top half split which then made it unusable. It says it can go in the dishwasher on the top rack, but I wouldn't recommend this.
Won't shut properly January 1, 2008 M. Thomas (Scotland) I was looking forward to using this gadget and having read poor reviews of the original shaker being prone to cracking I decided the metal topped one would be better. Unfortunately it refuses to close securely thus making the vigorous shaking needed nigh on impossible. I read and re-read the instructions searching for the knack to closing it and kept being stumped by being told to 'match up the arrows on the grip' turns out the original shaker has 'matching' arrows on the bottom half of the device, the metal one doesn't. Clearly the instructions are from the original. So the thing won't shut securely which means the one hand shaking Mr Oliver displayed on his recent TV show is not going to happen. As a result of this, it leaks. I attempted the lemon oil recipe, simple, olive oil and lemon zest. Most of it ended up all over my hands making holding the thing slippery. A mortar and pestle would have been quicker, easier and less likley to be thrown out of the kitchen window in a citrus rage. If like me you ignored the bad reviews and decided to buy one anyway because it looked cool, then good luck!
