Approach with caution September 3, 2003 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
Having followed her principles, I can safely say that it did work, however, the amount of calories she recommends is DANGEROUSLY low, and I actually increased it when I was following it. She also fails to mention the fact that such a low calorie consumption WILL inevitably lead to the body going into starvation mode, leading to actually gain more weight once the diet is over. I'm surprised she even suggests the 'rice and strawberry' crash diet of 600 calories a day - absolutely laughable. However, her 'psychological' chapters and self esteem talks, plus recipe ideas make it useful for those of us who cannot go on Atkins for obvious reasons.

Although most of the recipies in this book are fine in themselves, in my opinion Rose Eliot's 'theories' on weight loss are not based on very sound nutritional research. The amount of calories she recommends for each day is too low for just about any normal person, and I found myself feeling tired and drained while following the diet strictly. Also, the 'quick loss' diets she recommends, such as eating just pineapple for a whole day may work in the short term, but most of the weight lost will be water. I found some of the calorie counted recipes useful while on a healthy diet and exercise plan, but as for the rest of it, I think it's nonsense and frankly dangerous.
good recipies, - lot of diet ideas, enough to get me started January 30, 2002 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
already a fan of author, am pleased with recipies in book, - more info on slimming than i thought with several options, one which suited me, information on positive thinking and changing lifestyles motivating,
Useful recipes combined with wishy washy theories January 26, 2002 17 out of 24 found this review helpful
Good sound nutritional advice and most of the recipes are useful, easy and tasty. A diet book geared to a vegetarian is very useful, but to be frank I found the idea that wearing different colours will make me more likely to lose weight or announcing "I am slim and beautiful" when I patently am not positively laughable. The author should have stuck to what she knows - vegetarian cookery and left the new age stuff to others
Very odd ideas January 8, 2002 12 out of 19 found this review helpful
...I was looking for sensible low / no fat veggie recepies - instead I found myself presented with bizzare ideas (e.g. in one day, preferably in one go, eat two whole water melons and nothing else) ..... not for me thanks !!
