It is very funny and a book that you just cant put down. The book takes you through 2 years of Adrian's life; starting and finishing in the new year (with his resolutions, which he doesn't keep). This is defiantly the book for any teenager that will probably suffer the same things he has. Adrian is a worrier; his concerns are spots, his parents, his true love Pandora and also believes himself as quite an intellectual. Problems he faces are his dog (who is a constant pain), his best friend Nigel, Pandora, parents, an O.A.P called Bert and to top that off he also has to go to school! His mother and farther are just as any other parents, annoying. He also faces his mother and farther having a divorce. But the mother comes back and suddenly realizes that the man that she had an affair was a total CREEP! He challenges to be a poet at the BBC! But as usually does not succeed! But he keeps on trying. I going to stop here I don't want to give the story away!! I would give this book a 10/10 for laughter.
An infinitely clever and funny, perfect book January 6, 2002 anamchara@handbag.com (St. Andrews) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Townsend writes so intricately yet so seemingly effortlessly that every time I read this book I am delighted, intrigued and thoroughly impressed with her skill and talent. Can be read again and again and remain fantastic every time. The subtleties are endless--and endlessly funny.

Though the book is quite old it is still a great read! It is very funny and a book that you just cant put down. Adrian is a worrier, his concerns are spots, his parents, his true love Pandora and also belives himself as quite an intellectual. The book takes you through 2 years of Adrians life, starting and finishing in the new year (with his resolutions). Probems he faces are his dog (who is a constant pain), his best friend Nigel, Pandora, parents, an O.A.P called Bert and to top that off he also has to go to school!
AweSome Book! July 1, 2001 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
It seems to me that many of those who have read the Adrian Mole books are adults (20+. Oldies, hehe), but I being (only) 15 years of age thought this book is one of the funniest, most cant-put-down books I've ever read! I could instantly see myself as a 15 year old Adrian Mole living a rather caothic life as I suppose most teenagers do. (though my life might not be as caothic as Adrian's.) Sue Townsend has absolutely given a realistic description of a teenage boy's life.(she's probably been a teenager too I suppose..). I am now reading the second book in the Adrian Mole series (The growing pains of Adrian Mole) and it seems just as cool as the last one. I'd really reccomend this one. YOU'LL GET HOOKED!Ps: if you want to buy this book you should buy the whole series at once, or you'll go on the walls waiting for the other books when you've finished the first one. (bellieve me you'll want the other ones if you read the first one)
This is one of the best books I have ever read! May 27, 2001 I have recently read The Diary of Adrian Mole and I think it is brilliant...I haven't laughed so much in ages. I particularly like his fascination with Pandora and his quirky family. I also like all his references to history. This is a great book which ANYONE can read, even if you are over 60!
