Wonderful - made the journeys to home and work a pleasure June 10, 2001 Booklover (Cambridge, UK) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Not only did I listen raptly all the way to and from work for a fortnight, but I've ended up understanding how we've got to where we are. I know I'll listen to these tapes again and again and would recommend them to anyone. History comes to life - and how entertaining and informative it is. Superb.
concise, balanced and fascinating April 25, 2001 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I ordered this CD box set after listening to the complete box set of the previous volume: 55BC-1901AD. This set was just as good, and went into just the right amount of detail and really put things into perspective; something that many historical exercises fail to do. Excellent listening!
Sit back and let it overwhelm you!!! January 13, 2001 F. Van Doorn (Holland) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Nothing is as good as being read to. And then especially when the story is so good and being read by such professional readers. I enjoyed each and every minute of this series, from home-to-work and from work-to-home. This Sceptred Isle, to me, presents the 20th century history in a fashion that makes it come op life before my very eyes, my not being a scholar of British history. It continues the series This Sceptred Isle from 55BC to the death of Queen Victoria in a wonderful way. Treat yourself to this jewel and I assure you, you won't regret it!!!
