pathetic November 21, 2008 retribution19 Reilly comments at the end of the book that he wanted to create a Lord Of The Rings type epic. How he has the audacity to mention this book in the same breath as the above defeats me.
Poorly written but gripping November 18, 2008 Mr. Kevin J. Ward (UK) Not the greatest book, as others have said, terrible plots and unrealistic action - bit like the A team where a few hundred bad guys are shooting at the good guys but non get hit. However, it's also a book you can't put down as you're desperate to find out what happens next, even if only to find out how the author can possibly come up with a way to get the hero/s out of the situation they're in. It's worth a read, but don't expect anything fantastic in any literary sense and be prepared for the fact it is the first half, or third of the story and you will be left hanging. Extremely frustrating and I wish I'd seen these reviews and not bothered to buy this until I had the next book.
Burn this book October 31, 2008 Mr Angry (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is probably the worst book I've ever read, it's utter rubbish the writing is worse than juvenile. I've just burnt the copy I was given to ensure no-one in my house makes the mistake of trying to read it. Characters who are totally unbelieveable, appalling research, and a writing style that makes the Beano seem literary. It reads as if it's been written for a CGI movie, a very bad CGI movie.
It gets a response! October 30, 2008 Ostara (London, England) What I love about this book is that it provokes a response from everyone who reads it (over 50 reviews - wow!) This can be said for all of Matthew Reilly's work I suppose. Yes they are completely unbelievable; yes they are non-stop action, in-the-nick-of-time, page-skimming romps, but what is wrong with that? These kind of books are time-wasting fun, nothing more, and I for one will be buying the next part in the story!
Give it a rest guys!!!!!!!!!!!! October 19, 2008 Chris Lunn (Portsmouth, Hants, UK) I don't write many reviews but having seen others comment on this book,i felt obliged to add my thoughts as the more reviews i have read, the angrier i became. I read absolutely anything from a newspaper to gone with the wind to peter f. hamilton so i like to think i know what i'm talking about. first off, yes, this book is the second part in a trilogy and does end on a cliffhanger but that doesn't make it a bad book. In fact i think it makes it all the better, after all we watch tv shows that we know aren't gonna end that night, so why all the fuss about a book that ends on a To Be Continued... This is a famtastic book and should be read by anyone, who loves indiana jones, egyptology or the myths and legend sof the world or for that matter anyone who likes a cracking pacey read. my only complaint is that i have to wait until christmas 09 for the next part entitled "the five greatest warriors", come on matthew, surely you can get it to us before then!
