Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great overview of WAM   May 5, 2008
A. R. Bezuidenhout (South Africa)
James Naughtie gives a succint and concise overview of Western Art Music (WAM). He dips into periods in music's history to give listeners a feel for the journey music has taken up to Paganini in Europe.

In no way is it in depth but it does give one a sense of knowing a lot at the end of listening. His analysis takes into account all influences that sustains musical making and evolution.

Like a good lecture series in WAM (first year).
