1 out of 5 stars Misleading title   May 24, 2000

With such a title this CD has a lot to live up to, and it comes nowhere close. My main problem is with the fact that the 'greatest speeches of all time' bar one (17 out of 18) seem to have been made by Americans (Winston Churchill made it in by the skin of his teeth it seems).

It makes you wonder how the rest of the English speaking world got through the twentieth century with us being so tongue tied. Ronny Reagan gets two tracks while Ghandi, Mandela, Thatcher and even 'Princess David' of Wales would have been better choices for one of these.

Misrepresentation at the very least.

I ordered this CD expecting the full length audio of the listed speeches. They are mostly segments.

I compared the CD's version JFK's "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" speech to a video of the speech. The CD version sounds like a Teddy Kennedy remake. Many of JFK's pronunciations on the video do not match those on the CD. There is an obvious over-dubb of JFK's German attempt at "Let them come to Berlin."

MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech is not the one delivered in Washington DC as advertised. In the CD version, MLK says, "I have a dream this afternoon" not "I have a dream today" as it shows him saying in my video of the Washington speech. He also remarks, "I have a dream this afternoon that right here in Detroit..."

The CD insert reads, "Ronald Reagan: 'Berlin Wall'." I assumed this would be the speech from the Berlin Wall (as the insert says) where Reagan said, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." Instead, the CD has a two-minute segment from an American TV address in which he tells of seeing the Berlin Wall.

The CD is not what I expected or would have paid for had I known the true content.
