Marvellous stuff June 4, 2008 Graham R. Hill (Ilkley) The combination of the well-known (but nevertheless excellent) Conan Doyle mystery and the peerless casting of Merrison and Williams fully deserve 5 stars. The adaptation is sensitive and Donald Sinden contributes some trademark luviness so ripe that the director includes it twice in order that you can better enjoy the full flavour.
You don't know how lucky you are! July 6, 2004 Nigel Bailey (Deltona Lakes, FL United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The BBC has a reputation second to none. This vintage tale is given the full BBC expertise. Very, very well done and well cast, it is a joy to have the BBC's efforts preserved in this manner. I don't intend to cover the story, suffice it to say that it is a first class mystery. I'm sure most people have heard the story world wide and to retell in a review synopsis is a waste of time. My title refers to BBC Radio, living in Florida I miss having a good radio entertainment source, with satelite radio it gets better, but nobody approaches the BBC.

Clive Merrison & Michael Williams are absolutely fantastic as Holmes & Watson. All you need to do is turn off the lights and shut your eyes & you will be transported back to Victorian England. Arthur Conan Doyle would be delighted with this adaptation of his book. The story is still as chilling today as it was all those years ago. Fantastic
