Enjoyable March 14, 2008 Ms. Keely G. Finney I enjoyed this book, however I felt abit dissapointed when id finished it. While it did give me an insight into Lillian and how she came to be, for me it didnt really portray just why she is so horrible to Dawn. For one, if she didnt love her new husband, why is Dawn "her curse"? Why name her after her much loved sister Euginia if she despised Dawn so much? I was hoping this book would be similar to the fifth book in the flowers in the attic series, which I think did a much better job of explaining things. However it was a very good read, very harrowing, with the only dissapointment being the lack of explanation as to how she became so evil.

This was a good insight into what happened to Lillian at an early age and what made her behave so ruthlessley towards her grandaughter Dawn in the Cutler Series. It was a good book all the way through but I did feel that the ending was slightly cut short - there were only two chapters on what happened to Lillian once she had married Bill Cutler which I felt could have been carried on a bit longer. Overall it was a good read and I did struggle, as with any Virginia Andrews novel, to put the book down.

In the usual Virginia Andrews style, this story reflects on how life can change in an instant. It makes the meanness of Lilian in earlier stories all the more understandable, even though it does show that her behaviour isn't fair. Typically dark but I enjoyed it greatly.
