great horror series August 29, 2008 Red (Aberdeen) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
From the first moment in book one, Lord Loss, when Grubbs Grady encounters the Demonata and their evil minions it is obvious to the reader that Darren Shan books are from a different dimension. You really have to read them with an open mind, and a slightly twisted one too! The heroes are constantly changing, from Grubbs in book one to Kernel Fleck in book two, back to Grubbs in three and then Bec in some of the later episodes. Whoever is in charge you can absolutely guarantee a frightening ride through another world, which Shan depicts so very well. As far as teenage horror goes this is about as entertaining as it gets. You cannot compare it to the real horror masters, such as James Herbert, Shaun Hutson, Brian Keene or Conrad Jones, but they are truly entertaining, even though the storylines are flimsy to say the least, they are still excellent reading.
gory! August 21, 2008 Mr. Matthew West (UK) I brought this book, because the cover looked really nasty, but it looked like a regular horror book. I found it very hard to put down, the start was a bit normal, however, when you start to unravel things, you start to imagine that your really in the book, which is why its hard to put down. If you dont mind being slightly scared and you want an excellent read, buy this book!, after this book, darren shan has many other titles.
Really good book! August 2, 2008 D. J. Sam (UK) I first started out, not really doing much reading. I did think it was quite boring, then my mum encouraged me to start reading. So i just thought, to get her off my back, ill just read a book. I had this book 2 and a half years ago, not reading it. Im 16, and i used to do a lot of gaming. I first picked up this book, but boy i got hooked in to it. The book works great in explaining what happens, the twists and turns that you don't expect. At first you don't have any idea about the front of the book, with chess pieces. A horror book, with chess? But i'm telling you, read the first fewe pages and you won't put it down. I finished the book in a week, and loved every minute of it. It has brought me into reading again, and is quite a scary book. I remember, at night after reading this book, i dont get scared easily by books/movies. But those nights, i did get slightly scared (slightly) but not too much to close my eyes. That night, i heard noises aswell around me, which added to the atmosphere. If you are looking for a great horror book, that would give you quite a shiver, then pick this up and you will have a blast!
Suprise ending! July 14, 2008 Ms. M. Whiteley (portsmouth, england) This book is pretty awesome, I couldnt put it down, I read it within a day, and the ending was such a suprise. This is a book I could deffinatley read again!
Lord Loss review by Joe in the UK June 18, 2008 Joe (Brighton & Hove, England, the UK.) A magnificent introduction to the Demonata series! Darren proves himself again- the Vampire series was fabulous, but the Demonata series are... unspeakably amazing. Grubbs Grady is the character in this book, and unlike some books, Lord Loss goes straight to the point- only one chapter is spent on the usual old 'I live with my parents and go to school and play football'. On Chapter two (Or was it three?) WHOOSH! Instantly brought into a world of terror. Grubbs discovers his Mum, Dad and Sisters heads torn off and killed by Demons Lord Loss, Vein and Artery. I won't go any further than that- but I can tell you that this game has three key points: Demons Chess Werewolves. Buy this book- it's actually worth a heck of allot more than 4.99 (Was that the price?)
