5 out of 5 stars A thumping good read!   January 15, 2007

Again, Zoe Barnes writes with wit and flair to create another of her fab novels. The eponymous 'Split Ends' is the name of the salon, which the main character, Hannah, runs in partnership with her best friend Maxine and provides the centre of most of the book's action.

The main plot involves Hannah's relationship with her 9 year old daughter Lottie, and her husband, the sensible science teacher, Nick, who's not Lottie's biological father. Hannah, who's in her early 30s, believes that there's more to life than the day-to-day boredom of her marriage and seeks to find it.

There's some great characterisation along the way and special mention must be for Hannah's Grandfather, ex con, Herbie Flowers. Overall, a compelling read and a fantastic example of chick lit escapism.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST BUY AND READ!   March 2, 2005

Zoe Ball never fails to appeal, especially with this novel, which captures perfectly, her "off-beat" chick-lit. I ALWAYS read and re-read all of her novels, and am amazed at how any novels she can write, with on-going and appeal and a "must read" quality!!
If you ever feel the need to just pick up a book for a quick moment or so, I promise you that you will not be disappointed and will soon be engrossed in it. Go on - spoil yourslef - you know you deserve it!
