A rare thing, a readable book on software... May 26, 2008 T. RING (Dublin, Ireland) What can I say, if you're in the business you already know who Joel is. This is a nice distillation of all his early online stuff. It's beginning to date a little but still a great read, next version please Joel!
Running a company that sells software-based products October 8, 2007 Matthew Hare (Oxford, UK) If you run any company (especially a smaller one) that writes software, you must read this book. Not only is it very well written, but as it is essay based, you can digest it one bite at a time. Pay particular attention to: (1) how to attract and interview (and keep, where possible) software developers who will help you deliver a great product, and (2) how to break down your product development into small, deliverable, discrete components that will build momentum and (3) what to say and do when your technical lead says to you "... well, we really need to start again from scratch" Buy and read this book!
Thanks Joel August 17, 2006 Chris (Bath, UK) Crammed with brilliant insights explained so clearly that even your manager might understand them. Why aren't there more software books like this?
Nice and easy read March 15, 2006 Jarek (Warsaw, Poland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great airport read. If you are involved in any way in software development few ideas should make you thing... not as I agree with everything that was said there.
A Must read for programmers & project managers January 27, 2006 Andrew (Hampshire, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The single most valuable book I have read on software development and project management. Some of the later articles seemed a little out of sequence but its a great read with plenty of humour to illustrate points as well.
