| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Visual Quickstart Guide for Premiere 5.1 for Mac and Windows is a handbook-style volume--slightly smaller than most software books and designed for easy access to the information found within. This book works. It is built in a two-column format: one for text, one for pictures and illustrations. The entire book reads like a handy, step-by-step tutorial. The screenshots, generously integrated into the text, permeate each chapter. The text covers only useful topics and avoids esoteric discussions. Even the closing chapter, "Video and Audio Settings", which discusses some non-Premiere related topics like video interlacing, NTSC and PAL frame rates, and compression settings, sticks to a concise voice yet still conveys plenty of information. A computer software book without a CD is becoming more and more uncommon but the lower cost of this handbook may be the gain rather than the loss. The lack of colour pictures, a glossy cover and an oversized page also help to keep the cost down. In a world where some software books cost upwards of US$50 or $60, it is refreshing to see an affordable and useful book like this one. But don't let the low cost fool you--this is an ideal book for someone who already owns Premiere but finds the tutorials or the manual too daunting. The straightforward and easy-going nature of this handbook can get you quickly up to speed. --Mike Caputo, amazon.com

not bad for those with basic knowledge of premiere November 15, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
despite other reviews on this page I found this book to be most helpful, especially when you consider that the official adobe one costs circa 50. Prior experience may well be needed but a simple play around in the development environment is enough to give you that. It gives you fast access to a lot of stuff you might otherwise have missed. i.e. transparencies, excellent for creating credits.
Fast and to the point October 16, 2000 I bought the book to answer questions fast without having to trawl through endless pages of stuff I did not need to know. The book has lived up to my expectations and has already been a big help in my editing contests with Premiere.
didnt help a beginner August 23, 2000 lisey@ukoln.ac.uk (England) I do not recommend this book to the novice, as I was when I bought it. I think it has been written in a hurry with an awful lot of assumed knowledge. The screen shots are helpful, but the book reads like a 'whats new in version 5.1' README file with pictures.
This book is not a worthy addition to the QuickStart series. March 12, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Over the last 5 years I have found the Visual QuickStart series a welcome alternative to the nightmares of the typical software manual. Not so this one. In several respects it is badly structured and poorly conceptualised (the section on Trimmed Batch Recapture is incomplete, and by the way, Capture is not covered until Chapter 15! ). This book sent me scurrying back to my Adobe manuals which turned out to be not so bad after all. OK Bolante's book isn't all bad. The stuff on basic timeline editing, filters etc is great. It's just that I found it very confusing on too many occasions. Not really what you want.
