An invaluable guide to writing a dissertation July 7, 2006 MSc Student (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is probably the best coursework book I had on my MSc course. It clearly lays out how to approach a dissertation from start to finish. It is written clearly and cuts through all the academic terms that you need to define your methodology in a way that academics expect. Highly recommended.
Great Book February 24, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
An excellent book for everybody who has to prepare a dissertaion or a thesis. Written in simple language, easy to understand, providing vital information for the researcher.
Excellent for undergraduate and Masters students July 21, 2003 Mr. Richard Hull (Newcastle, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This thoroughly updated Second Edition is now an excellent introduction for both undergraduate and Masters students. The writing is clear, focussed and very student-friendly, with a minimum of jargon, and the structure of the book is also very clear. It will help students from the outset - choosing a research question - to the writing up and presentation of the results of their research project. It has a very good (if somewhat simplistic) chapter on overall research paradigms, which I have found to be especially useful for students undertaking a qualitative project for the first time. It has considerably more intellectual validity than many texts on 'case-study methods', as it is more in tune with current trends in qualitative research.
Lifesaving advice July 10, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was given this book by my disseration tutor to help me write my methodology for my MSc. I liked it so much, I bought the company. No, really I liked it so much I bought my own. Not only did it help me explain my methodology, it offered advice on how to get started on the chapters I didn't know what to do with, what to do if I'd done nothing and the deadline loomed, how to analyse my data without killing myself over it and provided numerous examples of other peoples work. Despite having never written a dissertation before I feel confident that I'm on the right lines, and know where I'll turn if it all goes wrong and my tutor is unavailable. In fact I wish I'd bought it before I'd even started as the advice on chosing a research area would have been very useful in selecting a topic. I can't recommend it enough. It may be a bit more pricey than some, but it offers much much more. If you're reading this knowing you'll never get it done, or not knowing what to do, this book can only help, and it won't make you feel a fool while you're doing it either. PS I'd like to thak the authors for providing sensible, readable and valuable advice during the most stressful period of my academic career. You're as good as therapy and much cheaper!
Dissertation Life saver June 16, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Hussey & Hussey is a must for anyone doing an academic research especially if its a post graduate research. I found it was very informative and thought provoking in that research has to be seen to be unbiased. The skills attained from using the book to complete my MBA dissertation is now part of the way I review and consider issues around me.
