Wonderful February 28, 2005 J. E. Davidson (UK) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I fell in love with this book on first sight, my four-year-old son has taken a little longer but now he loves it too.It is a beautiful book - consisting of six nicely reproduced Van Gogh pictures each one based on a different colour (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple). It is wonderful to sit down with my son and explore the pictures and their themes. The text consists of some questions and observations but the text is just a starting point, there is huge scope for digression and discussion - very educational and great fun. Unreservedly recommended.
What a joy May 13, 2004 M. M. O'dee (UK) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I've immediately returned to this site after receiving this book and The Lanaguage Nursery; absolutely wonderful and amazingly (to me) have been around since the late 80s. Gentle ways to introduce great works (and some teenagers here at the time enoyed them to). I work with children of all ages and found the 'Where would you put yourself in the picture' type examples really inspirational and gentle. Great.
Excellent June 7, 2003 55 out of 59 found this review helpful
My son is 4 months, and he enjoys the bright colours on the pages. As he grows older I will be able to share this lovely book with him in more detail. Each page has an original Van Gogh painting, it then asks you to look for something in the painting as well as other questions. On the back cover it also tells you a little about Van Gough and ideas to do with your own children. The only negative would be that it has American spellings, such as color. I'm already exposing him to books at an early age, and looking forward to introducing him to art, talking about colours, about the paintings themselves and make our own versions when he is much older! Before becoming a mum, I used to work at a nursery and 'the baby einstain' collection would have been great to use alongside the national curriculm. I will certainly be purchasing further items in the future...
