`Why do you think this book is called `Flaming Olympics'...? March 13, 2007 AMAZON REVIEWER Sorry......couldn't possibly spoil the book for you! If you have read the `FOUL FOOTBALL' and `TOP TEN' series of books, you will be aware of the way in which MICHAEL COLEMAN puts knowledge across, in a humorous way. This book is no exception. A colourful, humorous cover opens to 160 pages, split over 11 chapters:- Introduction The flaming ancient Olympics Flaming Olympic events - a duffer's guide Strike a light! - the opening ceremony Hot holidays and cold wars - the competitors Absolute torch-ure - flaming Olympics training Scorching performances - superstars and sizzling spectators Playing with fire - champion cheats Blazing rows - flaming Olympic disasters Oh, blow! - the closing ceremony The Grecian Games - Athens 2004 Black and white illustrations/cartoons/quizzes throughout.
Calling all sports fans, you must read this book! November 23, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Flaming Olympics is a fact book by Micheal Coleman all about the Olympics, it is part of a series of books called 'The Knowledge'. I liked this book because it was full of information about the ancient and modern Olympics, as well as lots of jokes and funny pictures. The genre of this book is fact as it is packed with helpful facts to tell you all about the worlds most famous sporting event. It covered almost everything you need to know about Sydney 2000, too. Even if you hadn't heard the word 'Olympics' before, you would basically be an 'Olympic expert'after reading this book! It also contains tons of Olympic stories with bad, and good endings. If I were to recommend this book to a specific age range, it would be for children aged 8 - 12, and if I had to score it out of 10 it would get 10.
