Ideal travel companion & quick reference July 5, 2007 bluecougar25 (Liverpool, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Mini-dictionaries are strange beasts, likely too many words for the average traveller, but not usually enough for more than the most beginning student. This one however includes not only useful and modern phrases for the traveller, set out side by side so you or your puzzled French person can point and smile at the relevant bit, but also handy menu items and phrases about exchanging email addresses. Its ultra-modern and up to date with the latest slang, making it perfect for double checking unexpected words in newspapers, magazines and recent novels, and is small enough to slip easily into a pocket or bag to carry around. The text is clear, the translations succint and there are handy box-outs with background information about particularly French establishments where a word for word translation would leave you clueless. With verb tables at the back and many pointers and grammatical niggles mentioned in the main entries, there's an awful lot of useful stuff crammed into a very small space. Ideal little companion for home, work or on the move, I was most impressed.
