Excellent reference book March 14, 2008 Victoria Mcnaught (Scotland) This is perfect for people who want to learn how to draw the human figure. There is no writing, just photos. It's all in black and white so shows shadows and highlights better for shading. There are various sections such as figures on a stool, in motion, pregnant women and so on. There are also a good variety of male and female models. It's not a massive book, but it is in no way small. The pages are perfect for showing full figures and small details. I bought this to use at uni when we didn't have a model in and it's superb. The variety of poses to choose from is excellent and it's really helping me improve. The only problem I have is that guys tend to enjoy peering over my shoulder when I'm drawing the female models...
Just perfect December 30, 2006 Ms. V. J. Heath (England) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am an art student at college, and am currently doing a project on anatomy, as I haven't been able to get life drawing classes i need a good reference book. I found this one and ordered it, I haven't looked at any other. The photos are of fantastic quality, the angles are beautiful and the poses are imaginative. As this is my first anatomy book i was expected to be embarrased but the photos are interesting and tasteful. I would suggest this to both amateur and proffessional as a great reference book.
Brilliant! worth 5 stars! December 10, 2006 Archer (london) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book last year, and since then havent looked back....its one of the most useful tools in my infantry of art. The images are of the upmost quality, with nice lighting and various different postures which really helps especially when you cant afford to hire a model. Would definitely reccommend to artists of all levels!
Worth every penny May 17, 2003 33 out of 33 found this review helpful
This book is brilliant. It is just photo after photo of perfect nudes. There is no text to accompany each photos or chapter which I was very happy about. The only text in this book is an introduction and the blurb on the back cover. The photography is incredibly sharp and it is the perfect reference for an artist who has no access to a real live model. The paper is also very good quality. After buying this and realising how useful it is I tried to find a book simular to the brilliance of this one, but there simply isn't one. Buy it!
Amazingly Useful January 29, 2002 63 out of 65 found this review helpful
This book is probably the most useful tool I have for drawing the human figure. It features more pictures of nude men and women, in pretty much every pose imaginable, than I actually needed. This is really the important fact about The Nude Figure - the sheer quantity of good quality, practically useful pictures it contains. All the photographs in this book are black & white, which helps a lot in defining the form and shape of each model (and therefore the human figure in general). Although there are more female models than male I did not feel the men were too badly represented. If anyone is interested in the nude figure I highly recommend The Nude Figure.
