5 out of 5 stars Superb book   June 21, 2008

A superb book clarifying the creative process and the elements of design that add up to make formally good 2D art.

The author discusses many techniques, styles and formal elements and is packed with full colour illustrations and examples of art verging from the twee to the experimental and the beautiful to the quizzical. Starting with observation and then exploratory drawing, moving onto different techniques and processes for generating and developing ideas, the book is encourgaing and well suited for those wishing to gain insight into the creative thinking process which is normally reserved for those with a formal art education.

Colour, scale, texture, values, contrast etc etc is all discussed with elegance and effect for those wishing to remind themselves of their art education or even those new to art or wishing to supplement the more conceptual and less theoretical tuition inside many UK art colleges.

The book is PACKED with information, pherhaps a little too much on each densely illustrated page, but for those wishing to extend their creativity, then this book comes definitely recommended.
