This book is one of the best I have seen for textile design students, and is also suitable for serious amateurs using simple equipment at home. Not only does it tell you how to achieve stunning effects in fabric, but illustrates techniques with gorgeous contemporary examples. The fabrics are left to speak for themselves while the instructions - illustrated more than adequately with photographs - are clear and detailed enough without being technically 'over the top'. Wells obvously has a great awareness of the techniques she talks about and the equipment needed to do so. Various contemporary designers' work is shown which are so inspiring I want to start now! This publication bridges the gap between a 'coffee table book' (glorious fabrics) and a serious textbook (loads of recipes and techniques). Highly recommnded.
