Cat lovers adore it, others should try it April 29, 2008 Jernau Gurgeh (Leeds UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A funny book about one man, his blind wife and the cats they accidentally adopt one by one. With anything less than a 5 star rating I seem to be going against the crowd here. It's a funny heartwarming animal tale but nothing near the gold standard of James Herriot. If cosy animal tales are your cup of tea then you'll love it. If you've ever been a cat owner you'll at least smirk at it, no matter how cynical you are. If you don't fall into either of those categories then its a good unchallenging light read but a little twee and contrived. However whilst it is not perfect, the humour should make it an enjoyable experience. Worth a try
Hilarious - Especially for those who talk to their cat February 17, 2008 Caroline As an owner of four cats, I was pre-disposed to like this book, however I wasn't expecting to find it quite so hysterical (beware those who read on the train - I got some very strange looks from my fellow travellers due to uncontrollable giggling). From the beginning, when Deric ends up effectively cat-napping Thermal the Kitten from his neighbour because he can't bear to see him out in the rain, this book is a joy. Thermal then commences his bid for World domination by taking over the Longden household by stealth and sheer weight of personality. The tale of when he goes missing was heart-wrenching, and was the only occasion when my tears weren't a result of laughter! The "conversations" between Deric and Thermal will resonate with all cat owners, and Thermal's escapades will keep you entertained throughout. Having read this, I bought the rest of the books in the series and wasn't disappointed.
A COMPLETE JOY TO READ. January 15, 2008 Mrs. E. Goddard I was given a copy of this book to read by a friend as i'm a big cat lover and could not put it down, i then bought it myself along with every book Deric had written and have loved them all. His books have had me laughing and crying on many occasions and i'd recommend them to anyone.
Gentle humour that will crept up and paw you October 27, 2007 S. Wafford (Devon, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was the first of Deric Longden's books I read and soon I became addicted to his style of writing. Deric does not hold back on writing about embarassing events that have occured in his life. Most people would cringe and never confess to the silly things that Deric does. I also share his love and passion for cats and many times whilst reading this book I found myself laughing as I have done exactly the same in similar situations regarding the care of my cats!
I want my own Thermal!!! ( not sure my cat Sam would approve though) September 6, 2007 E. Thompson (Cambridge, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Anyone who has had or has their own mad moggy will relate to Thermal's bizarre antics. This book had me laughing out loud and if I ever had the idea of feeding my Cat garlic sausage this book definatly made me think twice! I loved this book so much i bought four more of Deric Longden's books in one go, you'll love this one so much you'll never want to put it down. Well until your furry best friend comes and stares at you with his big sad eyes and demands feeding that is!
