Hmmm...........Not Bad July 13, 1999 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very good for learning some of the words, especially the short and seemingly complicated ones (but can only be remembered with luck). Rather disappointing in the form of a dictionary, as I was looking for some different layout. CAN BE IMPROVED with crazy and wild sentences as examples, and adding pictures and cartoons to it since visual learning is always better. The GOOD POINTS in the book are the good guide to pronounciation and the abundant number of sentences (but rather dull ones). Overall, an above average book.
Excellent Vocabulary Building Book May 1, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want to augment or ameliorate your vocabulary, you might want to study this book. I think that it is geared more towards high school students than adults, although the next WordSmart is suitablt for anyone.
Great book for GRE November 17, 1998 It helped me preparing for the GRE. It covers about 20-30% of the vocabulary in the verbal section of the GRE. The author has a good sense of humor. The examples, quizzes and final exams are very helpful. They make memorizing a lot easier.
Ugh! Sophomoric. July 30, 1998 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book because I'm trying to develop a more mature, sophisticated vocabulary. I didn't realize this was a book for kids, or that it would be larded with juvenile humor. Ugh! What a disappointment.
Very good book, especially for SAT test March 18, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Of the many vocabulary building books I have looked through, I find that this one stands out. It has a very good introduction, which gives some interesting information on the basics of vocabulary building. It is geared specifically towards doing well on the high school level SAT test and the words reflect that level.
