A portrait too far March 26, 2008 William Podmore (London United Kingdom) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's such a shame that a biographer as good as Hamilton has shown himself to be with his biography of Montgomery has chosen now to write about American presidents. JFK was an immoral, womanising, corrupt little warmonger. He tried to overthrow the Cuban revolution by force, by supporting a few Cuban traitors, but he was so stupid, arrogant and ignorant that he did not even realise that the revolution was popular, so he did not give the traitors the USAF support they demanded. He started the US war against Vietnam by sending 18,000 US soldiers there, against the USA's treaty commitments. And of course, like so many little undemocrats, he covered his bad deeds by being a Catholic and getting ritual absolution for his infidelities, his injustices and his warmongering. Why write about him?

FOR ALL THOSE WHO STILL HAVE JFK'S PICTURE ON THE MANTLE NEXT TO THE POPE, THIS IS A MUST
Masterly written, deeply revealing of JFK's charatcer. December 1, 1998 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
All would-be biographers should read and study Hamilton's attention to detail and superb ability to analyze and conclude. JFK's early years in his father's shadow and the aloofness shown by his mother, shaped his personality and leadership skills.
