Undoubtedly the leading book in Project Management literature January 5, 2009 K. Maroukian (Reading, UK) PMBOK is a masterfully crafted project management ANSI standard which focuses on nine knowledge areas, refined through the experience of more than six-hundred reviewers. Although PMBOK demonstrates generic ideas, formulas and theory on how to conduct project management successfully it has gained worldwide recognition because of its industry-wide applicability. Other project management frameworks or methodologies such as COBIT, ITIL and BPO have similarities to PMBOK but they focus on either IT, Governance or outsourcing management which limits their applicability, PRINCE2 being an exception here. It is obvious to me why PMBOK has rightfully gained an international status. Since the PMBOK is based on and describes best practice of numerous PM professionals working in various industries; the documentation, PM tools and techniques refer to experience from successful projects drawn from these various industries.
Professional field guide for project management November 24, 2008 Rolf Dobelli (Luzern Switzerland) Volunteer committees at the Project Management Institute (PMI) created this guide to the processes involved in managing projects. Communication among clients, the project team and vendors is crucial to project management, so the book establishes a common vocabulary and a standard way of discussing a project. The book focuses on going from step to step with reliable coordination and smooth communication. Newcomers will find it helpful as they become conversant in the way professionals view and discuss project management. And, given that this is a standard work in the field, professionals are likely to regard it already as a reliable reference, including the useful process checklist. getAbstract applauds this manual's solid utility for its targeted audience. It is even quite readable, though it is directed only to insiders.

If you want to understand the terms used and the structure behind the america n PMP certification you should read this book. Of course is a mandatory companion to a PMP certification book if you are interested in getting the PMP certification. This is a very dry manual you have to eat to get serious in project management. Egidio Messito
The exam is based on this book November 23, 2006 CS (UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The PMI PMP examination is based on this book. This book is the PMI version of a project management methodology. The PMI is a US based organisation. If your company is US based, or does work globally, it probably bases the way it does things on this book. The PMI PMP qualification is an excellent addition to any CV.
