A must for newly appointed time poor retail managers! July 25, 2002 If you dont have enough time to study Retail Management at college during the day or evening or if you cant find a retail management course in your area buy this book. Ok so its got lots of American shops as case studies but who cares the principles stay the same, apply the advice dispensed in this book and you will see the difference over night! This book gives an excellent insight in the back of store operations of all the catagories of retailing outlets from FMCG to luxury goods and is useful if you, like me, are a newly appointed manager and cannot find retail oriented courses at the right study level in your area. Covers everything from reasons for pricing goods in certain ways (eg odd or rounding pricing) to employment law and how to sell sell sell! Excellent a must for any well read retail professional.
Very useful text. October 15, 2001 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I do retail management at college and was advised to buy this book. It has been a very useful text, however, i feel i would relate more to it if it was British as all the examples and theories are based on America. For example, it gives case studies on Sears, J C Penny's and Wal-Mart but if these had been on John Lewis, Debenhams or Tesco then i would relate more to it because i know those retailers. On the whole, a good and very informative retail book. Couldn't do my assessments without it!
A realistic review of Retailing.... July 30, 1999 RMgmt is a great book with valuable case studies from people with REAL experience. From concept to info systems, the book helps the reader really understand the critical areas of a retail business and the virtal measures
