Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Atmospheric Film Noir novel   July 28, 2008
Ms. S. E. Hindmarch (London, UK)
This book is set in the 1950s and is noir mystery story set on the outskirts of a seedy Hollywood world. It is told by the protagonist Lora, a schoolteacher who is suspicious of her brother's new wife, Alice.

The gender subtexts are explored well by the author. I enjoyed it for so many reasons: the plot twists, the well-drawn female leads and the intriguing look at 1950s movie studios.

The author writes beautifully - I would highly recommend you try this book out, whether you are familiar with the genre or not.

I have also just found out it is being made into a film but set in the present day. How disappointing!
