Hard Case Crime is right on track in delivering us yet another corker. Lawrence Block's 1965 pulp novel takes us into the world of the grifter and the long con.
Johnny Hayden has served time and has decided to go straight, that is until fellow grifter Doug Rance turns up on his doorstep. Doug has met a woman who wants revenge on her lover/boss and Doug has come up with the perfect long con to help her. Johnny decides to do just one more job so that he can retire with a nice little nest egg, and get that roadhouse that he has had his eye on.
They have their mark, they have a woman on the inside and they have the perfect con, things shouldn't go too wrong. Things just seem to run along so well, surely nothing can go wrong?
Lawrence Block puts in his usual rock solid performance and delivers a fantastic story, that will have you racing through it. If you liked BBC's The Hustle you're sure to love this.
