Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars An enjoyable historical whodunnit.   February 16, 2004

An pleasant read, with plenty of descriptions of eighteenth century London and endearing characters. Sir John Fielding calls on his protégé, Jeremy, a little more in this book than in previous ones. Jeremy matures a good deal in this story and has a few upsetting challenges, which he handles well.
Over all a well written, exciting story.

Another excellent helping of Georgeon London, as always Sir John is assisted by Jeremy Proctor, who is now 15 years old and becoming a young man.Several murders including two " jack the ripper " style have Sir John, Jeremy and The Bow Street runners working at their best.
an excellent read for lovers of historical crime. full marks to Bruce Alexander, I hope he continues to write this series.
