Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Strangely under-written.   September 23, 2005
This is quite a short book, by a writer who seems unfamiliar with the concept of "show, don't tell". The style is very abrupt, and the story lacks the detail and atmosphere which might make it interesting.

It's set in Santa Fe, and I read it because I'm going there, but it managed to convey no sense of place at all, despite reeling off street and restaurant names.

As for the plot, it is under-developed and ridiculous in places. Overall, the book seems so under-written that it is like a hasty first draft that the author needed to do a lot of work on to bring up to scratch. I'm really surprised that an author I admire, Laura Lipmann, should write such a glowing endorsement for the cover blurb.
