5 out of 5 stars A fantastic and thought provoking read!   August 13, 2008

This book was recommended to me as a thought provoking and truly good read. It made me really think about God and how he loves us. It doesn't matter that it may not be theologically correct, it is a story and doesn't claim to take the place of the bible but, what it does do, is to really make you take a good look at how you conduct yourself and behave towards others. As a Christian, it really made me realise that some of the feelings and experiences we have can do so much damage to us, but with God's love our lives and behaviour can change. If we all took more time to love and be more forgiving the world and our lives would be so much better. It was a gripping story and I would definitely recommend it, in fact I have recommended it and so far all my friends who have read it have thoroughly enjoyed it too.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   August 12, 2008

This is the best book I have read in a long time. It will make you laugh, cry and think. It doesn't matter if you are a Christian or not as this deals with suffering and pain which is universal to everyone!!!! You HAVE to read this...

1 out of 5 stars A Shack full of ++++ !   August 10, 2008

I was given this book to read so I started it having heard what an incredible best-seller it is in the States (never a good sign ! )and was surprised at first that it seemed to be a rather weak thriller, unashamedly taking from the Maddy disappearance with hardly disguised similarities. With unease I read on, until the Shack becomes the House of God himself, living cosely there divided in three ridiculous ( the trinity of course ! )characters politically correctly chosen from all continents...
Why waste more time on this, this is utterly naff stuff that can only appeal to a very narrow readership. That this kind of syrupy schmaltz can become a bestseller, that is the real mystery, not God !

1 out of 5 stars Full of theological errors   August 6, 2008

I don't recomend this book. The book is aimed at a Christian audience and despite being well written it is full of theological problems as well as an irreverent and casual attitude towards God. Yes, there are nice things in it and people might even be helped by the book. But, so what? There are some nice things in Mormonism, too. Should we encourage people to read the Book of Mormon because Mormonism might help someone feel better? Not at all. Sadly, experience has shown me that most Christians aren't interested in biblical fidelity. No, I'm not talking about biblical nit-picking. I'm talking about fidelity to the revealed word of God to the point where we don't contradict what is plainly stated in scripture! We Christians should regard the word of God as the final authority on all things and any supposed accounts of actual occurrences should be compared to scripture, not our feelings, wants, and desires. In the case of The Shack, the book falls woefully short of scriptural truth in many important areas and has the strong ability to mislead people regarding God's nature, work, and plan for us.Again, I do not recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars The Shack   July 30, 2008

The Shack is book I never thought I would read, but having been called upon to conduct four funerals of young people in three weeks it has proved an invaluable help to me in deepening my understanding of relationship love of God. Read together with 'tokens of Trust' by Abp Rowan Williams these could prove to be life changing
