A gripping read October 10, 2008 a fan (Berks, England) A fantastic thriller that keeps you hooked throughout. I am often disappointed by a thriller's conclusion - but felt that this one kept you gripped all the way through. I'm a little bit torn in my appreciation of the hero. He is a great character - but suprisingly violent with little conscience, which just does not seem to fit with the overall feel of the character. However, this can be forgiven as it keeps the story running forward at a rapid pace. I was hooked from the start and found it to be a very enjoyable read. If you like Michael Connelly books (Harry Bosch fans will appreciate the similar characteristics in Jack Reacher), then you'll find an equally strong thriller in this one. I can't wait to read the next in the Jack Reacher series.
Simply the best- you will drop everything down to read it. September 24, 2008 annetortue (Devon, England) This book is simply one of my favourite book ever. I have recommend it many times and lend it to at least 3 people and my own copy is now in tatters. I found the plot absolutely fantastic. Lee Child's imagination is rich and he creates an excellent atmosphere. He really does small town evil like no- one else ( OK maybe Karin Slaughter). You can not not fall in love with Reacher, who once again uses brains and muscles to achieve what he wants and help those who need it. So many scenes are for me iconic, such as the one in the prison. the twist in the plot is so clever, even now, 2 years after reading it, I always think of it with a smile on my face. Pure delectation, absolute heaven. I thoroughly, throughly recommend it: you will not regret it!
A total masterpiece!!! September 5, 2008 Nick (London, UK) This book is total masterpiece, I really enjoyed this one - the plot, characters, layout, and total everything - is the highest notch in excellence! I highly recommend this book! Like most of the Lee Child books!
serial character lover July 31, 2008 Melad (Sheffield) I love Jack reacher books, and this is one of the best I`ve read. Lee Child is such a good writer. If you like Child read the Soft Target books by Conrad Jones, theyre fantastic thrillers, same genre. Keep them coming Mr Child.
A good no-brainer read July 21, 2008 Literary Lunatic (Scotland) Just finished this on holiday - have never read any Lee Child before so decided to start at the beginning of the Jack Reacher story. I'm more of a fan of the style where you can work out what is happening so was slightly disappointed that you had to be fed some of the knowledge and couldn't have worked it out on your own. Plus there were some big leaps that you had to make (won't spoil it for those who haven't read but there is the 'coincidence in being in Margrave' and the 10th man leap which I still can't work out!). Having said that, it is a real page-turner and all characters are very engaging. While it is the Jack Reacher series, I do hope we see some of the others back in other books in the series. I guess I'll have to read them to find out.
