Everything you wanted to know..... February 26, 2007 Hilary M (Bristol, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
...about Edgar (Allan) Poe. Normal 'Coop' formula, but Fairstein lays on the information about Poe with a very heavy hand. Lots of twists and turns, plenty of suspects but all playing second fiddle to telling us about...POE (whom Fairstein seems to worship). It's readable, lightweight and undemanding. Laying on the beach stuff to tell the truth.
A gripping suspnce novel, February 9, 2006 DevJohn01 (Somerset, NJ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It is probably hard to believe that as someone who often enjoys a good mystery/suspense novel that this is the first novel by former DA Linda Fairstein that I have read. Fortunately I was not at all disappointed with this engrossing novel. Entombed features attorney Alexandra Cooper who is the heroine in all of Fairstein's novels to date, yet in this tale while trying to find a serial rapist who has eluded her partner Mike Chapman and herself for years Alex also finds herself trying to find a murderer who quite obviously was trying to frame this serial rapist. Now finding this copycat has become a priority for Alex as she learns of its connection to a murder committed twenty-five years ago in the former home of poet Edgar Allen Poe. The investigation leads Alex and the detectives to a group of Poe enthusiasts known as the Raven Society who seem to have many secrets that they do not wish to have unearthed. This novel takes many twists and turns as Alex searches not only for a murderer but a serial rapist as well. However, the chemistry between Alex and detective Chapman, as well as the slight cliffhanger between the two, is what will keep me reading more of these Alex Cooper novels as well as searching out Fairstein's previous novels!
Very Good January 15, 2006 O. Doyle (Ireland) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is the first Linda Fairstein book I’ve ready and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. The story starts by the reemergence of an old enemy – ‘the silk stocking rapist’. After a four year absence he strikes again and his first mistake gives the ADA Alex Cooper her first break in the case. As you wait for the story to develop another plot opens up when a body is found entombed behind a wall in a building under renovation. Before long you’re sucked into two cases and there are so many suspects that it’s hard to see until the very end who exactly is responsible for the spate of dead bodies. I really enjoyed this book although I did find all the information about Edgar Allan Poe slightly OTT at times. This is one of those books that will keep you turning pages right until the very end. There’s suspense, tragedy and hear-break all rolled into one and it makes for a fascinating read. Enjoy.
Body behind the wall!! January 10, 2006 Denise Leighton-price (Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This story starts with a repeat of an old case which happened years before and as you thinking that the main focus will be following this story. As the tale progresses we find a body behaind a wall, almost by accident, and repeatedly the story comes back to this. As the book progresses a tangle of people become connected to the body, all relating to the poet Edgard Allen Poe. It keeps you guessing right until the end, so many people seem connected in their own way but only one is truley guilty. Will the police find out in time and are they in danger along the way. This books gets better with every page turn until at the end i jut had to finish it.
Fairstein Fails May 22, 2005 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
Only read this novel if you are a genuine Fairstein fan and won't mind being disappointed by a story that is disjointed, slow and unconvincing. Alexandra's ability to solve the case of the silk stocking rapist is contrived and unbelievable. The incident which affects Mike Chapman is too convenient and although it seems designed add to or explain the bond between Alex and Mike and may be included for the development in a further novel, it does not add to the story being told and is an insult to the intelligence of readers, especially those who have read all of Fairstein's previous works.
