A classic of the genre May 12, 2008 Telboy (Holywood, Co Down, UK) If you only read one serial killer thriller in your life, do yourself a favour and read this one. It's relentlessly paced, fantastically plotted and filled with more gore than you can shake a blood-spattered stick at. Thomas Bishop is easily the equal of Hannibal Lecter, with his bloodthirst, insane urges and chilling intelligence. There is a depth to Shane Stephen's characterisation that is supremely satisfying and you will want to read every single word - no skimming here! A fantastic read, but not for the squeamish.
Astonishing April 18, 2008 HGDave (Hazel Grove, Engand) An absolute classic. It's astonishing that this book (and author) are not more widely known. I first read this in the 70s and even though I've read many serial killer novels, including those by Thomas Harris, Michael Connelly, John Sandford etc, this is still at the top of my list. The story propels itself forward so that you can't stop turning the page and all the characters including the killer are extremely well drawn. I've read most of the author's other novels, including those written as JW Rider, and they are all worth reading, but this is the 'must-have'
The most unputdownable book I have read! August 10, 2006 A. J. Kirk (Netherton, Lanarkshire, Scotland) What a fantastic story.Thomas Bishop leads Everybody on a wild goose chase across America. The police-hot on his tail. The mafia can't find him. He is the master, butchering at will. Then Stevens introduces us to Adam Kenton. His story makes the book, and what a twist at the end.Who was Thomas Bishop? If you only ever read one book, read this one!
Absolutely brilliant read August 16, 2001 A. J. Parkes (Dudley, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this book mainly through the 5 stars everyone gave it, and thought it must be good. I was wrong, it is excellent. A compelling read from start to finish makes this novel one to read again and again. I wish they would make a film of it.
SUPERB , SUPERB , SUPERB July 2, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I enjoy crime thriller novels and admire most of the work of Jeffrey Deaver , James Patterson etc but this book beats them all. It is superb , scary , well observed and the plot races along.
