1 out of 5 stars Deep Sound Channel   October 6, 2002

The plot is threadbare and insulting to any European or South African.
The characters spend a lot of their time explaining the plot and technical details to each other, for apparently highly trained professionals this seems a little strange.
A token “Brit” is added to no useful purpose other than, presumably, an attempt at assisting UK sales?
The “action” is flat and repetitive.
If I could have given this book a zero I would.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant in both plot and content...   May 16, 2002

You find yourself torn between a love for both the good guys and the bad guys in a story that is just non-stop action and adventure. Set in the not too distant future, Joe Buff has managed to offer a great page turner as well as a look into the future of nuclear submarine warfare.
The glosary is a great help, especially for those not familular with some naval terminology. The bibliograpy included has also helped me find books that really aid in finding out more about submarine warfare, tactics and design.
Joe Buff is set to be a possible rival to the likes of Tom Clancy..... A must for those interested in both submarines and technothrillers!
