For the VERY conservative dresser... May 18, 2008 U. Hartmann (Bristol, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm fully aware that style and fashion are two completely different things, but I do feel that the advice given in this book and mostly the illustrations are far too much on the conservative/frumpy/dowdy side. My guess is that most British ladies would like to dress stylishly, but a bit more modern than what is described in this book. This book features the most horrendous pair of knickers in the "Underwear" section I have ever have set my eyes on. All in all not bad, but if you want to be stylish with a bit of a modern twist, you'd be better off with the Lucky Shopping Manual!
Good advice with great pictures July 1, 2007 Natasha Hanson (UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a good all round style manual with great pictures and easy to follow ideas. It is soildly built on the In Style magazine format (the US version not the UK one - the UK one being a poor imitation of the original). Worth the money for the special occasion advice alone.
A really useful primer for the insecure and unchic. May 14, 2004 51 out of 57 found this review helpful
Nicely presented, lavishly illustrated, helpfully organised and sensibly written. It doesn't really tell me anything earthshattering, because I'm sad enough to have a whole library of books like this, but it's a very good bet for somebody at risk of having Trinny and Susannah set on them by their friends.
Excellent reference book March 9, 2004 119 out of 122 found this review helpful
Being an avid reader of the magazine by the same name, I was intrigued to see what the book would be like. I very much enjoy fashion and accessories, but being of somewhat "different" measurements, I cannot always follow up. Nevertheless, I do tend to see what's right for me and adjust what is not. With all these in mind, I bought the book, almost certain that it would only be addressed to those "few" who can actually wear the right size. Well, I was pleasantly surprised! Each item is very well explained in a dedicated chapter, and not only that, but for every type of problematic area, there are indications as to how to deal with it. The new thing in this book is that readers are allowed to have more than one problematic area (just as myself). Thus, one may have a tummy and be heavier in the lower body (again, just as myself). I especially enjoyed the parts on shoes and underwear (extremely helpful). In general, a very good buy!
