5 out of 5 stars Great for beginners!   February 3, 2008
Leigh Sanders (Spain)
I'm new to the world of Aromatherapy and this is the first book I've ever bought. It's easy to follow and well-written. I can honestly say it was a brilliant buy and I've already mixed some face oil for myself, which works like a dream! It's packed with 'recipes' for everything from face oils to flea collars!

Aromatherapists I know (including myself) recommend this book highly above all others, not just for the beginner seeking some basic knowledge and starter blends, but for the seasoned pro who requires an almanac of tried and tested information.

Since getting into Aromatherapy, I've read many books on the subject, but this is the one volume I consistantly refer back to. Whenever I am going away for a while and find it necessary to pack a portable essential oil kit, this book is always packed along with it - there's everything in here anyone might need, for any occasion.

I even took this book away with me on my honeymoon!

Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you are interested in Aromatherapy and do not own this, then shame on you! Buy yourself a copy immediately!

The Fragrant Pharmacy is a book no home should be without. When I bought it years ago I had no idea that essential oils were so potent and could be used completely effectively for all kinds of ailments, and from starting out with a lot of scepticism, this book has converted me. I think if I had to keep only one book it would be this one. Who wants to be hanging about in doctors' waiting rooms picking up germs from the next ill person, when you can keep a stock of all the commonly used essential oils in your own home - with the added benefit of being so fragrant and pleasant to use as well. What I like even more is that my children have grown up with first hand knowledge that these natural remedies work and I'm sure they will pass them on to their children too when the time comes. When they've got a headache, cold or a sore throat, they say Mum can I have some steam please! Obviously its the oils added to the water and the vapours that do the healing. I've learned how to treat, and treated in myself minor burns, sinusitis, impetigo, herpes cold sores (these used to be the bane of my life, now I don't fear them at all) and Candida, to name but a few. In my children I've also treated chicken pox, urticaria and ringworm. My daughter stepped on her heated hair tongs with a bare foot one morning before school, burning the arch of her foot. With a foot soak in ice cold water followed by an application of lavender oil she was walking to school half an hour later. I will be buying this book as a Christmas present for my sister this year.

5 out of 5 stars A must-have reference book, taken with a pinch of lavender salt   October 25, 2006

A very practical and informative book on aromatherapy it gives you all the information you'll ever need. I've used it to help me deal with breast cancer and it has helped, though of course I wouldn't recommend aromatherapy as a therapy on its own - for anything really. But even if it's the placebo effect, it's so pleasant to adminster that I can heartily recommend some of the essential oil combinations and their applications that Worwood suggests. For example, for dealing with nausea, to help one relax and to help one meditate. She has excellent practical guides to help you make your own candles and soap, for the garden and pets even. Her 'Basic Care Kit' which she describes in Chapter 2 is worth getting.

I am a professional therapists (aromatherapy, bodyworks and sports injury). I have used this book as my bible now since 1994, the year before I started my business. I came across/bought it by mistake and have to say it has always proved invaluable, insightful, and is a good part of the reason why my reputation was made. Whether you understand your oils and even if you don't you can't go wrong with this book. The recipes work and I haven't had to go to the doctors more than a handful of times since 1995. A "MUST" book to have people!
