If you only buy one book, make it this one! October 12, 2008 Mrs. K. J. Simpson (Surrey United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a bit of a book worm, I brought loads of books on my new baby. However this one was by far and away the best. No contest. As a new Mum you get very little free time to sit down and read for hours. This book gives a detailed week-by-week breakdown on what your little-one is doing and as a result you only have to read one chapter a week. The info is useful, interesting and invaluable and really settled my mind about what was happening. If you want a weighty, in-depth tome on child development this is not the book for you, but if you only have 10 mins between feeds or before the next colic induced melt-down this book is an excellent place to start.
Excellent book for first time Mums September 14, 2008 Ms. S. Salisbury (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought about 10 baby books! but this one was by far the best. Each chapter is based on each week of your little one's life up to 6 months and covers what you should expect about then for feeding, nappy contents, sleep and other general good tips. As a very new mum I did not have a clue, this book was such a good help. I'd definately recommend it.
Awesome - every new mum should buy this! September 1, 2008 NewMumLondon (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is fantastic, and I would highly recommend it to all new mums. It gives sensible and realistic advice, and its week by week format means that it is not too overwhelming to read when you first come out of hospital. I also found that any scares or questions I had relating to the baby were covered in the book, and it is a really useful reference book, even though it is not a huge tome. It is a welcome relief to the often joyless and militant routine-obsessed books that are out there, and encourages you to enjoy time with your baby and not become fixated by sleep times/feeding times, whilst at the same time suggesting sensible routines after a certain number of weeks. I have recommended it to all my friends who are expecting - it was a real lifeline for me. The only small point is that the advice on making up formula milk is now out of date due to new WHO guidelines, but don't let this put you off. Thank you to the authors!!!
A brilliant brilliant book! August 16, 2008 Emma Laxton 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is absolutely brilliant and a "must have" for any new mum. I found it invaluable and have recommended it to all my new mummy friends! It is broken down into helpful sections such as feeding, nappies, sleeping, what's happening to mum etc. The weaning section is fantastic and I refer to it on a daily basis at the moment. Highly highly recommended and without doubt the best baby book I have purchased.
The best new born baby book for first time parents! August 4, 2008 D. Jarrett (London, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can not agree more with all other reviews here - it is trully a life saver! It is very informative but not in a patronising way. The content is laid out in a week per week format, so as an inexperienced new mum this is fantastic, I could always read couple of weeks ahead to know what might happen and what needs to be prepared. And it covers almost all the potential problems/questions you might encounter during baby's first 6 months. Although each topic (such as crying, sleeping, weaning, development, etc) is kept very concise, but very consistent and I personally think it is sometimes better than other books I boughts which only focused on one topic. If the same author can continue write the guide up to 2 years, I would be the first to buy it! A must have for all new parents.
