Solid Gold Hero February 21, 2008 Chubworth (London) This book has one shining message - that Eric Morecambe evoked such love and affection from all who knew him and all who knew of him that there can be no greater tribute. If you cn find it, try to get hold of footage of him on a Christmas World of Sport with his old mate Dickie "The Mallen Streak" Davies. It's inspired TV and very little shown despite the beautiful anarchy.
Wonderful Biography December 30, 2007 KiwiGirl (New Zealand) I thought it was great - and mine had *all* the pages in tact! For those missing 187-192 they were: photo of the boys & Joanna Lumley and a letter of condolence to Joan from Russ Abbott: The remaining pages are photocopies of letters of condolences from people such as Penelope Keith, Judy Dench, Henry Cooper, Peter Bowles and many others.
classic collection January 10, 2007 Royale (London, United Kingdom) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great book from William Cook (who also did two great books on Peter Cook, and one on Peter Cook and Dudley Moore). The words are relatively familiar, but it is the stunning memorabilia and photos that make this a must for fans of the comedy legend. Well worth adding to the collection. And apparently there is another to follow this year on both Eric AND Ernie. If I have one snipe, it is that the book in paperback format is slightly small. Been better if in full coffee-table size. But it didn't dampen my pleasure much.
Bringing back the sunshine! January 31, 2006 Royale (London, United Kingdom) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this as a Christmas gift and as a lifelong fan of the great double act, was thrilled at the new photos spanning some seven decades! There must be over two hundred photos in the book plus loads of memorabillia. Well worth having for any fan of British comedy, or those interested in the history of light entertainment. Apparently there's another book done in the same style of Eric and Ernie in the not too distant future, according to an interview I heard. Already looking forward to it.
A Bit Extra for Fans January 17, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got the book this Christmas and enjoyed the photographs in particular.Look out for the picture of Eric with his mother-in-law,both with their spectacles off-set.As has been said by other reviewers, the text covers most of what you will have heard before;but it is always worth reading a different writer's take.As an introduction to Eric Morecambe and his life and career it is excellent, particularly at this price for a hardback.
