My Children Were Inspired! May 28, 1999 My 2 1/2 and 4 year olds were so inspired by this book, they decided to make their own "pink and plump and perfect cake". With Dad's help they mixed many items (some not so traditional, like soy sauce!) together and baked it. Amazingly, it was GOOD! This creatively written book brought out their inventiveness and willingness to try new ideas and see "what if...". A wonderful story.
Clever rhyming story with interesting language and pictures. April 3, 1999 This book has character! From the interesting illustrations to the clever descriptions of the children's food preferences to the surprise ending! This book is wonderful to read aloud to very young children because the rhyming captures their attention...not to mention the large, beautiful illustrations! Even very young children can remember each child's food preference! Also, everyone in the family can relate to someone in the book! This book is also wonderful to read to a group or class! A fabulous story-starter or lesson "teaser" to get children to express their own preferences and individuality. No matter how many people read along, this book's great message is that Mom loves you no matter what what your personality is like!!
My 2 1/2 -year-old son loves this book. February 6, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one of my two-and-half-year-old son's favorites, and one of mine too. (It always helps to enjoy a book your child wants to hear hundreds of times.) In the beginning, Mrs. Peters doesn't mind trying to get her persnickety son's milk "the proper temperature." "And when his milk spilled on the floor, she patiently prepared some more." As more children arrive, they each want something different to eat, and the ever-pregnant mother tries to accomodate them, despite her growing exhaustion. The "eaters" go from "silly" to "foolish" to "fussy" to "persnickety." The pictures are wonderful, detailed, and realistic, showing an utterly chaotic, but loving, home full of happy kids. The baskets of laundry grow with every child, and lots of familiar toys are scattered everywhere. (My son likes to point out the ones he has.) The Seven Silly Eaters is an utterly charming book.
A book to read over and over again. November 24, 1998 This is a charming book about poor Mrs. Peters and her seven children who eat seven different foods. My son and I have read this book over and over again, we both have it memorized. The illustrations are also wonderfully done. My son wants to keep it to read to his children when he grows up.
Our family's favorite book! September 27, 1998 We have bookshelves full of great children's books and THIS book is one of our top 5 picks EVER! I think the four members of our family all love this book for different reasons. My 4 1/2 year old loves the characters and following each one through from page to page as they grow, keeping track of their silly antics. My 2 year old son likes the sound of the words...and has fun pointing at all the familiar things he see's in the Peter's house that we have in our house too. I love this book for the fantastic illustrations, the descriptive and fun-to-read verse, and also for the way it makes the hecticness of having small children in the house seem so normal! And even though it's a children's fiction picture book, I always finish reading it with the feeling of "well, I only have two silly eaters! I can handle THAT!". HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
