a lovely book January 26, 2008 S. HADAVI (United Kingdom) Polly Cameron thirty something would be potter works as a waitress. She lives amid clutter and cats and normality. She is a lovely character with her oxfam clothes and her genuine kindness especially to drunken teenagers. This is one of Ffordes best novels the characters are well presented even the awfull jolly hockey sticks Melissa whose decor matches her food beige. Polly meets the rather stuffy David Locking-Hill and they are immediately attracted to each other, despite their differences. Polly is in her own way somewhat repressed, and this shows unconsciously in her work as a potter, an encounter with David changes all that and Polly begins to change her style as an artist. An enjoyable read.
Didn't like Polly...much. July 2, 2007 L. Rand (Dorset, Uk) Number1. Katie Fforde isn't claiming to write classic, deep, meaningful books, I mean if that's what you want, go read War and Peace ! If you want a light, lively, feel good read you need look no further than Katie Fforde! I am a Katie Fforde fan I have enjoyed all of her books, because they are a light, lively and pleasurable read (that cheer you up). Most people comment that the character aren't realistic, well allot of people I know must be unrealistic then (as the characters constantly remind me of my family and friends)! Living Dangerously I didn't enjoy as much as Artistic Licence, Stately Pursuits or Thyme out (which are my KF top reads). I found it really hard to warm to Polly, in general Im behind the lead character 100% but not this one! She was less than cheerful most of the time, which spoiled the feel in the rest of the book. David was a excellent hero who you got to know as the book went on, pity the same can't be said of the heroin. Still I good read, as all of Katie Ffordes book are, keep up the feel good work!
Well up to expectations! May 7, 2007 Chris (East Mids, England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having read many of Katie Ffords other (more recent) works, and unable to obtain the earlier books from my local library I bought this and 2 other of her books (used) via Amazon. They all arrived within 2 days and I chose to read this one first as it was the first one written. I absolutely loved it. Of course it was the same as the others in many ways - essentially a very girly book - but it ticks so many boxes and I read it in two sittings. Typical of other of Katie Fforde's novels but so far I like it the best of those I have read. I hope you enjoy it too!
Good but not still off July 19, 2006 Sonja (Beverley, England) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was the third book by Katie Fforde I have read. I enjoyed the novel and the writing, but really had a hard time believing the main character. I had a hard time believing a character who had been celibate (due to a less-than-satisfying sexual history) that suddenly launched into full-out dating. This also made me feel that the initial encounter with our hero was a bit far fetched. Regardless, this was a fun light read with a fun story.
Katie Fford at her best March 25, 2004 17 out of 21 found this review helpful
if you are just going to read one of Katie Fford's books, choose this one. A happy formula of thirty-not-stick-insect independant woman, with artistic abilities, finding love. A book I want to keep, a feel good.
