3 out of 5 stars The Prefaces are important   June 7, 2007

I give this three stars because there is another edition, possibly from penguin which has a more literary introductory piece which is part biography of the authors and part biography of the books, ie describes popular styles of writing at the time which influenced Marx.

The prefaces are important though because in at least one of them Engels describes how the book is not as relevent as it once was, particularly its twelve point list of demands, such as universal education (a moderate demand and pretty much necessary for a developed economy today).

It lends itself to proper contextualising of the book, being in posession of the whole story.
