2 out of 5 stars POOR QUALITY????   October 10, 2008
Charlotte Matthews (UNITED KINGDOM)
HI,
BASICALLY THE BOOK IS GREAT, ONLY ONE PROBLEM.
THE BOOK HAS DARK PAGES AS ITS AN OLD STYLE BOOK. THE WORDS ARE TINY AND I MEAN TINY, I HAVE BRILL EYESIGHT AND I WAS ACTUALLY STRAINING TO READ IT. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE SELLER BUT I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE AND IT WAS THE SAME! THERES NO PICTURES SO THAT WAS A BIT OF A LET DOWN BECAUSE I THINK PICTURES ARE COOL FOR BETER INSIGHT. WELL THATS IT, BUT GOOD BOOK AND VERY DETAILED.

3 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY DISTURBING.   April 15, 2008

I was so disturbed by this book i wasn`t able to finish it. I don`t think anybody needs to know about the murders in such graphic detail. Very upsetting. `Britain`s most evil woman` is right.

I was a teenager at the time of the Moors Murders, so can remember the press coverage generated. This book, although now overtaken by events and more recently revealed information, does convey a sense of time and place very well. Emlyn Williams states that part of the work is 'surmise' which is inevitable as the book was written so soon after the events, but it does carry you along and works at putting you into the minds of the murderers. A recomended read.

4 out of 5 stars A favorite book   January 3, 2008

I first read this book about 30 years ago and have re-read it a couple of times. I really liked the style of the narrative, including the use of dialect. The book is fascinating and the author does an excellent job of portraying the killers, the victims and David Smith, who leads the police to the murderers. If this sort of book is your "cup of tea" - it's not for everyone, I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!! --- One of the best books ever written!   December 13, 2007

The late Emlyn Williams really should be classed as one of Britain's most talented authors ever to have lived, his masterpiece "Beyond Belief" from 1967 is the story of moors murderers, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.
The style in which it is written I must say is very good, like a movie or a play, you really feel as if you are there in the room as Ian and Myra have conversations with friends and neighbours and really can feel the pain the victims mothers must have went through.
Fantastic research and time when into this book and it remain's one of greatest true crimes book ever written.
