Good little essays...but some lack depth January 7, 2008 MCG (Bracknell, England) I liked this book. It has a a series of short, concise and incisive essays on a whole manner of business topics. My only criticism is that all the essays are quite short and some of them lack depth and leave you wanting more of an answer that what is given. I suppose that's fair enough though - the book clearly states that they are articles from the author's newspaper column, so its not unreasonable they are short and to the point. Worth the money.
One of the few business books worth reading May 14, 2007 Andrew Ross (Surrey) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Funny isn't it? - most business books are written by academics, consultants, and management theoreticians - people who have never run a business in their lives. Here, for once, is a book by the real deal: someone who has started companies, grown them to a decent size, had a few failures along the way, but proved that he can cut the mustard. Johnson's writing is superb. Mercifully free of claptrap jargon, pseudo-science, and all that motivational bunkum you get. He writes simply, is refreshingly opinionated, and backs up his opinions with evidence. The book's so good that it should be made required reading on every business course in the country. No chance of that, of course! The people who teach business courses prefer arcane and useless theory to practical reality. If you want something amusing, insightful and informative to read on holiday this year, this hits the spot. I'd rate it as one of the best - and certainly the most enjoyable - business books I've read in the last 3 years.
